What does the ignition system do?

The ignition system usually consists of a battery, a generator, a distributor, an ignition coil, and a spark plug. It works as follows:

1. The working process of the mechanical ignition system is that the crankshaft drives the distributor shaft to rotate, and the cam on the distributor shaft rotates, so that the primary contact of the ignition coil is connected and closed to generate high-voltage electricity.

2. The ignition high-voltage electricity passes through the distributor on the distributor shaft, and is sent to the spark plugs of each cylinder in sequence according to the working requirements of the engine, and the spark plugs emit electric sparks to ignite the gas in the combustion chamber.

3. The distributor housing can be rotated manually to adjust the basic ignition advance angle (that is, the ignition advance angle at idle speed), and there is also a vacuum advance device, which provides different advance angles according to the change of the vacuum degree in the intake pipe.

4. Judge the working state of the engine through a series of sensors such as engine speed sensor, intake pipe vacuum sensor (engine load sensor), throttle position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, etc.

5. Find out the ignition advance angle required by the engine in this working state on the MAP map, and ignite according to this requirement.

6. Then correct the above ignition requirements according to the knock sensor signal, so that the engine works at the best ignition time.
